About us
The Lower Saxony Memorials Foundation was established 2004 as a foundation under public law by an unanimous vote of the Lower Saxony parliament.
The Foundation’s main tasks are to
- appropriately commemorate the victims of Nazi persecution and to ensure their life stories are not lost;
- maintain the sites of Nazi persecution, record and archive accounts from victims and research, archive and make accessible documents relating to their experiences;
- increase the knowledge about the Nazi period, its roots and effects and pass on this knowledge;
- support historical and civic education relating to Nazi crimes and to encourage reflection about their significance for the present.
