The model project known as “Competence against antiziganism/antiromaism – in past and present” (Kompetent gegen Antiziganismus/Antiromaismus, or KogA) aims to train information disseminators and the employees of state and civic institutions, organisations and various professional groups who have been socialised in the majority society to be aware of prejudices and act in a non-discriminatory way. The focal points and goals of the project include sensitising participants to past and present forms of antiziganism/antiromaism as well as conveying and developing the relevant competencies.

Diversity of methods

The competence programme therefore comprehensively combines historical and political education in the context of memorials with approaches to democracy and human rights education. This is supplemented with activity-oriented methods and concepts from the field of human resources development as well as with concepts and approaches for the development of inclusive thinking and action in various professions and institutions.

Human rights and inclusion

By focusing on inclusion and inclusive human rights in combination with historical and political education, the participants learn to view social diversity as an opportunity. The aim is also to show how barriers can be recognised and dismantled in order to improve participation in government, economy and society. Sinti and Roma organisations are involved in this work, as are experts and information disseminators from this field.
