The Bückeberg Documentation and Learning Centre provides information on the historical site of the "Reich Harvest Thanksgiving Festivals", which were held annually from 1933 to 1937, about mass events of Nazi propaganda. This year's seminar will focus on the following questions: What are the central elements, language and images of nationalist thought in the past and present? What educational programmes are offered by memorial sites in Lower Saxony and throughout Germany? What information and desiderata does research on right-wing extremism and authoritarianism provide about lines of continuity? What does "continuity" mean in terms of ideological and personal levels? How have actors in the culture of remembrance dealt with continuities in past decades, and what omissions need to be reflected upon? To what extent are visual and linguistic ideologies reproduced in today's mediation work?
In parallel workshops, sources and materials will be analysed based on historical sites in Lower Saxony: How can film and image analysis be used to analyse völkisch imagery and propaganda, and what forms of aestheticisation can be found today? To what extent did völkisch homeland literature shape Nazi ideology and where can motifs be found in today's debates on nature conservation and agriculture? What role did forced labour play in Lower Saxony, and how can continuities around the topic of (forced) labour be viewed today? What myths play a role in right-wing extremist attacks and how can memorials position themselves?
