Workshop report "Explore - Preserve - Share"

Workshop report on the research project "Explore - Preserve - Share. A transnational community platform on the history of Nazi forced labour in Lower Austria". With Edith Blaschitz & Eva Mayr (Department of Art and Cultural Studies, University for Continuing Education Krems).

The workshop report presents the ongoing citizen science project "Explore - Preserve - Share. A transnational community platform on the history of Nazi forced labour in Lower Austria" (2025-2027), which is developing a digital platform on memories and documents of Nazi forced labour in Lower Austria (https://connectingmemories.at). Building on two predecessor projects, the project aims to digitally preserve private photos and documents, including contextual knowledge and memory narratives, while at the same time motivating local communities of remembrance and international descendants of former forced labourers to engage in dialogue and collaborative processes.

The report focuses on the challenges of transnational digital collaboration between citizen scientists and descendant scientists as well as the question of how collaborative analysis processes and dialogical formats can be designed to jointly open up fragmented family sources and divergent memory perspectives on hitherto little researched Nazi forced labour camps and the everyday history of forced labour.
