Workshop on dealing with regulars' table slogans
Prejudices, discriminatory and inhumane slogans - sometimes also called regulars' table slogans - are no exception. They permeate our everyday lives. Nevertheless, they usually catch us off guard: at the bus stop, in the supermarket, in the school playground, at work, at a club or at a family party. We want to intervene, but before we can react, the situation is already over.
The workshop aims to help us cope better in such situations. It aims to encourage us to stand up for diversity, tolerance and a democratic culture in our dealings with one another. Many attitudes of group-based misanthropy and conspiracy narratives are in continuity with National Socialist ideology; it is therefore also the task of memorials to counter these and to stand up for a democratic, diverse community.
In this workshop, we want to work together to develop knowledge about prejudices, (regulars') slogans and the mechanisms behind them. An exchange about hurdles, fears and expectations will lead to the joint development of techniques and strategies to counter these misanthropic statements. We consider together: How can I react well? What is my goal when I take a stance? Who do I want to reach with my actions? The focus is on practical testing and practising possible responses in role-play situations.
The event is free of charge. It will take place in Hanover at the Listerturm district centre (Walderseestraße 100, 30177 Hanover).
