One of the central tasks of the Lower Saxony Memorials Foundation is to promote the further development of memorials and initiatives dedicated to remembering Nazi crimes in Lower Saxony. The Lower Saxony Memorials Development Department is responsible for handling this task.

The department provides financial support to the memorials in the region and organises events at them. It also carries out historical research, advises local memorials and initiatives, and coordinates the academic and educational work of the memorials in Lower Saxony.
